Simple Things Make a Big Difference

Sometimes the biggest changes don't begin with grand speeches or expensive programs.
Sometimes they begin with something as simple as believing in people, setting a goal, and
celebrating the small victories along the way.

Since Mr. Hassan Ares took over the Academic Department at HHHJCC, students and staff
have noticed a different atmosphere. The halls seem a little brighter, conversations are more
encouraging, and people are taking pride in what they accomplish every day.

One of Hassan's favorite messages is that success is built one small step at a time.

"You don't have to climb the whole mountain today," Hassan often tells students. "Just take the
next step. Small goals, completed every day, turn into big achievements before you know it."

That mindset has spread throughout the department.

Each week, students write down personal goals—whether it's completing assignments,
improving attendance, or helping a classmate. The challenge isn't to be perfect. It's simply to do a
little better than yesterday.
And something remarkable has happened.

Every student met the goals they set for the week.

"I didn't think writing down my goals would matter," one student said with a smile. "But crossing
them off every day made me want to keep going."

Another student added, "It feels good when someone notices your hard work, even if it's
something small."

The encouragement doesn't stop in the classroom

Hassan has made it a priority to recognize students and staff by sharing stories about the
difference they make. Whether it's participating in a neighborhood cleanup, helping with the golf
tournament, or even saving a student's life by using first aid training, every story reminds
everyone that each person has value.

"Everyone has a story worth telling," Hassan says. "When we recognize people for doing the
right things, we inspire others to do the same."

Those stories come alive thanks to teamwork across departments. Office Administration has

memories that everyone can appreciate.

One of the week’s highlights was for the academic student’s. After working hard and staying
focused on their assignments, students were rewarded with a special treat prepared by the
Culinary Arts Department. It wasn't just about the food—it was Those stories come alive thanks

"Knowing there was a reward motivated me to stay focused," one student laughed. "But honestly,
hearing 'good job' felt even better."

A staff member shared, "It's amazing what happens when students know someone believes in
them. They rise to the challenge."

A special thank you goes to Chef Brian Vinero and the Culinary Arts Department for preparing
the delicious treats and for continually supporting campus events. From special lunches to
community gatherings, their hard work helps showcase the talents of our students while bringing
people together.

Recognition has also become a regular part of Town Hall meetings. Students and staff are
celebrated with stories, photos, and awards for achievement, cooperation, perseverance, and
always giving their best effort.

Staff members have noticed the difference.

"The energy is different," one instructor commented. "Students are encouraging each other, and
everyone is working toward something positive."

Another added, "When people feel appreciated, they want to do even better."

The teamwork doesn't stop there. Departments continue to support one another, and Roosevelt
has helped keep everyone organized, focused, and moving in the same direction while providing
dependable support to both students and staff.
As Hassan reminds everyone, "Success isn't built in one giant moment. It's built through small
wins, one day at a time. When we celebrate those wins together, everyone grows."

The Academic Department's success is proof that simple things really do make a big difference.
With strong leadership, teamwork, encouragement, and a commitment to recognizing everyday
accomplishments, HHHJCC continues to create an environment where students and staff can
thrive.

Sometimes all it takes is one goal, one encouraging word, and one person who believes in you to
change everything.
